Laurie A. Humes-Ashbaugh

Laurie A. Humes-Ashbaugh, age 61, of Guys Mills, PA, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on Thursday August 1, 2024, after a brave battle with chronic illness. 

Laurie was born in Meadville, PA to Karl and Carol Humes of Guys Mills. 

She was a graduate of Maplewood Jr/Sr High School and of Crawford County Career and Technical School with her nursing diploma. Laurie then became a long-term care nurse at Rolling Field’s nursing home in Conneautville, PA. She spent her life practicing empathy, kindness and understanding of all people and animals big or small. Her life’s work and purpose changed in 1992 with the birth of her first child; Laurie spent the rest of her life dedicated to being a homemaker, mother and faithful wife. Her greatest pleasure in life was spending time with her children, her animals, watching horror movies and true crime documentaries. Later in life she would be known as MeeMaw to her loving granddaughters with whom she would facetime regularly and adored until her final breath. 

She is survived by her parents Karl and Carol Humes of Guys Mills; her younger sister Patricia (Ronald) Solzat of Shippensburg, PA; her three children Carolyn Verfuss of Rochester, NY, Barbara Jones of Meadville, PA, Karl Ashbaugh of Hesston, KS; her three granddaughters Grace Verfuss, Audrey (AJ) Verfuss, and Arya Jones. 

She was preceded in death by her adored grandparents Jerry and Betty Synder of Meadville, PA. 

A private service and celebration of life will be held in honor of her life.
