Louis A. Cox, 81, of 132 W. 23rd St., Erie, formerly of Guys Mills, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014, at St. Vincent Health System, Erie.

Louis was born in Meadville, on October 18, 1932, a son of the late Fredrick and Lorretta (Steele) Cox.

On June 30, 1956 Louis married Mary Ann Curley at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church; she survives.

He was a member of St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, Guys Mills.

After 35 years of employment with Channellock, Louis retired in 1993 from the Forging Department. A Korean Conflict veteran, Louis entered the US Air Force on November 29, 1951 and served his country honorably until his discharge on November 28, 1955. Louis graduated from the former Randolph High School in 1950. He was a Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus Council #388 as well as an Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph. He was a huge fan of Notre Dame, the Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns. Louis will be sadly missed by his family and friends.

In addition to his wife Mary Ann of 57 years, Louis is survived by four children Dennis F. Cox and his wife Lisa of Guys Mills, Bridget Hillkirk of Erie, Michael L. Cox and his wife Richelle of Ft. Myers, FL, Paul A. Cox and his wife Michelle of Memphis, TN, eight grandchildren Tommy, Heather, Ashley, Megan, Michaela, Makenzie, Nathan, Jake, two great grandchildren Rylee, Freddy, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Louis was preceded in death by three brothers Walter, Francis and James Cox.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Scripture Service will be conducted at 8:45 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Hippolyte Roman Catholic Church, 25997 Route 27, Guys Mills, at 10:00 AM on Friday, June 6, with Fr. Daniel Prez, Pastor, officiating. Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will follow.

Louis will be laid to rest in St. Hippolyte Cemetery, Guys Mills.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sisters of St. Joseph, 5031 W Ridge Rd., Erie, 16506.
