Louis August Wagner

Louis August Wagner of Meadville, passed away after a period of declining health on March 9, 2017.

The son of John M. Wagner and Ann Radulovich Wagner of Monaca, he was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh in physics and a graduate of Indiana University in Slavic Linguistics. In 1967 he came to Meadville to teach Russian at Allegheny College until his retirement in 2003 as Professor of Modern Languages while also serving as director of the Blair Hanson Language Learning Center, as Secretary of the Faculty, and as an officer of the National Association of Self-Instructional Language programs.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Mary J. Wagner, by his sons Adrian K. Wagner and Alan G. Wagner, his grandson Maxime Perrin Wagner, his brothers John M. Wagner, Jr., and Rodney J. Wagner, and his sisters Judith W. Patterson and Janet W. Willig.

In the local community he led a group of youth and adults to Russia in 1996 on a program called Friendship Through Football, taught an after-school class in woodworking at the Learning Center, and was a member of St, Brigid Church.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, March 17, 2017 from 6-8 and on Saturday, March 18, 2017 from 9-10:45 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 18, 2017, at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch Street, Meadville at 11:00 AM with Fr. Johnathan Schmolt, Pastor, officiating

Louis will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
