Luella Pope

Luella Pope, 93, of 1207 W. 8th Street, Erie, passed away Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at home.

Luella was born in Como, MS on November 2, 1919, a daughter of the late Elijah and Dora (Howard) Ramsey.

She married Thelma Pope; he preceded her in death.

The story of compassion, love, strength and victory was the life Luella lived. She accepted Christ at an early age and she was a faithful member of United Faith Fellowship Church of God, Meadville, for many years. She had also been a member of St. John Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church, Meadville. She was very well known in her community as 'Ms. Pope, Auntie, Ms. Luella, and most of us knew her as Momma'. She opened her home to many, always with great hospitality saying 'come on in, sit down, and can I get you something to eat'. She loved children, but had a special place in her heart for 'babies'. She was a great cook, well known for her 'chicken and dressing and sweet tea'.

Luella is survived by eight children Eddie B. Mitchell and his wife Erma of Coldwater, MS, Booker T. Pope of Columbus, OH, Truman Boyd and his wife Mattie of Meadville, Bobbie Hillard of Erie who cared for her until God called her home, Albert C. Boyd of Erie, Bob Boyd, J. B. Boyd, both of Meadville, Elijah Boyd and his wife Theresa of Erie, forty-seven grandchildren, more than 100 great grandchildren, more than 50 great great grandchildren, a sister Lady Mae Walker of Cleveland, OH, a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Thelma, Luella was preceded in death by four children Hubert Pope, J. Q. Pope, Mae Katherine Leverson, George Boyd, Jr., seven brothers and sisters Earnest Ramsey, Ozell Ramsey, Willie Ramsey, Van Ramsey, Ulyses Ramsey, E. V. Ramsey and Bessie Powell.

Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 from 3pm-7pm at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.

A Homecoming Service will be held at 11AM on Thursday, October 10, 2013, at United Faith Fellowship Church, 561 State St., Meadville, with Rev. Berta Newsome Jones, Pastor, officiating.

Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
