Margaret Findlay Timpe

Margaret Findlay Timpe, 87, of Meadville, passed away, Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Marquette Hospice House.

Margaret was born in Meadville, on March 15, 1936, the fourth daughter, and seventh of eleven children born to the late George and Mary Ann (Nageotte) Findlay III.

On May 22, 1990, Margaret married James "Jim" Timpe who preceded her in death on September 16, 2015. She had previously been married to Hawley "Cork" Kilburn from 1957 until 1989.

While living in Meadville she was a member of St. Brigid Church and while living in Florida she was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Mt. Dora. She served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector at both parishes.

Margaret attended the former St. Brigid School before graduating from Meadville High School in 1954. In 1956 she became employed as a flight attendant for Capital Airlines working out of Midway Airport in Chicago, IL, until 1957. After her marriage she became a full time homemaker and then began raising her family. She was an excellent cook and baker. Margaret developed a skill for sewing and made many of her own clothes as well as for her children in their early years. When her children were older she worked at St. Brigid Church as secretary. After 15 years of service with the church, she began working as a bookkeeper and did payroll for many small businesses in the Erie area and later in Leesburg, FL, working up to 2020. She had been a faithful volunteer with the former Spencer Hospital auxiliary where she served as president. She was also a member and treasurer of Erie Bridge Association and a proud Gold Life Master ACBL member. Her passion for playing Bridge and other games was strong and kept her very competitive.

Margaret is survived by her children Scott Kilburn (Cheryl) of Prosper, TX, Greg Kilburn (Gladys), Mark Kilburn (Jodie), Suzanne Benak all of Meadville, Krista Rhoades (Larry) of Guys Mills; step children Jimmy Timpe (Nancy) of AZ, Elaine Kern (Rick) of Fairview, Steven Timpe (Joy), Sandy Barbaro both of Erie, David Timpe of FL; grandchildren Jason, Lori, Jeremy, Scott, Lucas, Sydney, Jarrod, Adam, Colin, Andrew, Lexie, Heidi, Ty, Michael, Matthew, Michael, Luke, Sarah, Rachel, Katelyn, Dan, Megan, Andy, Anna, Maria, Angela, Theresa, Dominic; 27 great grandchildren; siblings Doris Redmond of Camp Hill, Paul Findlay (Katy) of Ashtabula, OH, Jack Findlay (Nancy) of Woodstock, GA, Jim Findlay of San Rafael, CA; many nieces and nephews.

Margaret was preceded in death by siblings George Findlay, Jane Kelley, Billie Simmons, Richard Findlay, Fr. David Findlay, Mark Findlay; and step daughter Cathy DiFuccia.

Family and friends are invited to call from 4-6 PM on Thursday, August 3, 2023, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 5:45 PM.

A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 AM on Friday, August 4, 2023, at The Epiphany of the Lord Parish, St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, with Fr. Jeff Lucas, Pastor, officiating.

Margaret will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of donor's choice.
