Marian H Van Buren, formerly of 14408 Locke Road, Conneautville, PA, died on Thursday, December 22, 2022, at the Rolling Fields Elder Care home where she resided since March, 2020.


Born in Erie, PA, on December 18, the eldest child and only daughter to John Dorr and Florence Coon Hollenbeck. She graduated from Conneautville High School (now Conneaut Valley) with honors in May 1947. On May 20, 1950, Marian married Newton (Bud) Van Buren. They celebrated 55 years shortly before his death on August 24, 2005.


Besides Bud and her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sharon Stang, son-in-law, Dale Robacker, and brothers/sisters-in-law: John, Lawrence (Helen), Albert Clair, and Richard (Pat) Hollenbeck..


Marian is survived by children: Kathy Robacker, Richard & Gary Van Buren, son-in-law Thomas Stang; Grandchildren: Tanya & Tom (Donna) Robacker, Jason Shallenberger, Tammy, David, & Isaac Van Buren, Jason (Jenna) Miller and Jessica (Thomas) Whalen. Great grandchildren: Casey Robacker, Zachary Van Buren, Alyssa & Erica Whalen, & Alexander (Zander) & Caleb Miller. She is further survived by her sister-in-law, Joyce Hollenbeck and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


Faith was very important. Marian & Bud were long time members of Littles Corners United Methodist Church where she served on the Administrative Board, Pastor-Parish as secretary, Sunday School Secretary/Treasurer, and a delegate to the Western PA United Methodist Conference.


Marian worked full-time while raising her family. She worked at CHANNELLOCK, Inc. for two stints, a total of 30 years, in accounting, secretarial, computer programmer/operator and Purchasing Agent. In the mid 1980’s, she established an accounting and tax business in her home along with auditing and consulting. In 1986, she was appointed as the Hayfield Tax Collector and subsequently served an additional 12 years in that capacity.


Marian was extremely civic minded and active in Republican politics where she served for multiple terms as the elected Republican State Committeewoman representing Crawford County and a member of the Northwest PA Caucus Political Committee. She also served on the County Republican Executive Board serving as Republican Chairperson of Volunteer Voter Registration, member of the Northwest Council off Republican Women, Hayfield Township Republican Committeewoman for more than 40 years and was chosen Republican Woman of the Year in 2000.

She also was a part of: the Triangle Chapter of Daughters of American Revolution, the Hayfield Township Central Firemen’s Auxiliary, Conneaut Valley Alumni Association Board Member and past President, Junior Achievement of Crawford County Board of Directors and Treasurer, Meadville Management Association – Membership and served as Vice President, President and Chairman of the Board, National Management Association – served as Regional Director, Purchasing Management Association, Zonta of Meadville, Crawford County Firemen’s Auxiliary– served as Secretary and two terms as President, Crawford Central Business Education Committee, Crawford County Vocational School Crafts Committee, Hayfield Township Citizens’ Committee, Norrisville Garden & Civic Club


Friends will be received at the Mizner Funeral Home on Monday, January 2, 2022, from 2pm-5pm. Additional viewing will be from 12:30 -1:00 at the Littles Corners United Methodist Church. The funeral will begin at 1:00pm with Rev. Lea A Guiney officiating.  The funeral will be live-streamed on the funeral home's facebook page (Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc.)


The family wishes to express our sincere gratitude to Rolling Fields Elder Care for the wonderful and loving care that Mom/Grandma/Gigi received during her time residing there. Also, we are extremely grateful for her special friend, Myrna Adkins, for all the visits, kindness, love and friendship, over the last several years.
