Marija "Maria" Minka Strasner, 89, of Saegertown, passed away Thursday, August 11, 2016, at home.
Maria was born in Slovinia, Yugoslavia on July 21, 1927, a daughter of the late Karl and Ivana (Novak) Dornick.
She was a faithful member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church where she started the Blue Army Devotion on the first Friday, first Saturday and the daily recitation of the Rosary in the months of May, October and November. Maria never missed Sunday Mass, daily Mass or a Holy Day. A very prayerful woman, her deep devotion to the Catholic Church also lead her to attended Mass regularly at St. Mary of Grace as well as St. Brigid Church. It was not uncommon for her to attend multiple Masses on the weekend.
Maria came to America in 1957 from Slovinia, Yugoslavia. In 1958 her husband passed away. Not speaking the English language, a strange woman in a strange country, she worked and prayed to survive. She raised her two sons by working at the former American Viscose Corp. and Lord Corp. Following her retirement, she traveled to Europe as a tour leader, which included tours to Rome, Our Lady of Fatima and Medjugorje.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 3-6 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where three Recitations of the Rosary will be said at 4:00 PM.
Three Recitations of the Rosary will also be said at 9:00 AM on Friday, August 19, 2016, at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, where A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM with Fr. Tom Trocchio, Parochial Vicar, officiating.
Maria will be laid to rest in St. Agatha Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
In lieu of flowers, Masses may be scheduled in her memory.
