Mark Andrew Merritt, 51, of 12971 Maplewood Rd., Guys Mills, passed away suddenly on Friday, October 20, 2017, while at work.
Mark was born in Erie, on August 21, 1966, a son of the late William C. and Anita (Briggs) Merritt.
On August 19, 1989 Mark married Rhonda L. Hawkins; she survives.
He was a member of United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills Guys.
For the past ten years Mark was employed as night auditor of Hampton Inn on Oliver Road in Erie. He had previously served as Associate Pastor of New Lebanon Community Church and as Pastor of United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills. A graduate of Lakeview High School, Mark attended Edinboro University and also completed online courses with Liberty University. A man of many interest and talents, Mark wrote poetry, fiction stories as well as music. He loved music especially progressive and classic rock. He enjoyed playing the guitar, the writings of JRR Tolkien as well as C.S. Lewis, collecting vinyl records and following the Cleveland Indians. Mark was a nature lover who especially enjoyed hiking and dragon flies.
In addition to his wife, Rhonda, of 28 years, Mark is survived by two daughters Ashley Anita Merritt of Meadville, Emily Noelle Merritt of Guys Mills, his step mother Mary Merritt of Franklin, two brothers Paul Merritt and his wife Becky of Carlisle, Brian Merritt and his wife Karen of Pittsburgh, two nieces and five nephews.
In addition to his parents, Mark was preceded in death by a brother Glenn Merritt.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday, October 24, 2017 from 3-7 PM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM United Evangelical Free Church of Guys Mills, 11534 State Hwy. 198, Guys Mills, with Pastor Dave Coddington officiating.
Mark will be laid to rest in New Lebanon Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Clinton County Housing Coalition, 330 E. Main St., Lock Haven, PA 17745 , with the words "Merit House" on the memo.
