Martha Jane Kastel, 84, of 13069 W. Running Deer Tri, Peoria, AZ, formerly of Meadville, passed away Tuesday, August 2nd, 2011, at Banner Boswell Hospital in Sun City, AZ. The cause was complications of Parkinsons Disease, her family said. She lived with her son, Scott, in Peoria, AZ, for the past seven years.
Mrs. Kastel spent most of her life in Meadville, PA, where she was a Purchasing Agent for the former Meadville City Hospital. She was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church and St. Brigid Altar Rosary Society. A lover of literature and a voracious reader, Mrs. Kastel also had a passion for gardening and animals.
Martha Kastel was born in Meadville on August 26, 1926, the daughter of the late Jerome and Eunice M. (Betts) Frederick, and sister to the late Jerome Frederick, Jr. She married Henry Eric Kastel in the summer of 1950.
Mrs. Kastel is survived by her son Scott J. Kastel of Peoria, AZ, her daughter Vikki Woodson and her husband William of Lawrenceburg, KY, three grandchildren, Courtney Marie Woodson, Army Specialist Samuel Scott Woodson, Taylor Mackenzie Riley, all of Lawrenceburg, KY, a sister Nancy Hoffman of York,, PA, a nephew Donald Betts of Conneaut Lake. Her husband, Henry, preceded her in death in February 1997.
Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, September 30, from 12-1 at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:00 PM officiated by longtime friend, Msgr. Jan C. Olowin of St. Michaels Parish in Emlenton and Msgr. William C. Karg of St. Stephens Roman Catholic Church in Oil City.
Interment will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
