Mary H. Bluxome

Mary H. Bluxome, 96, of 31 N. Park Ave., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Wesbury United Methodist Community, where she had been a resident of Cribbs Residential Community. She was formerly of 441 Martha Drive, Meadville.

Mary was born in Meadville, on May 5, 1921, a daughter of the late John and Mabel (Kiser) Hamilton.

On September 30, 1944 Mary married Daniel M. Bluxome; he preceded her in death on January 23, 1996.

She was a lifelong member of Christ Episcopal Church, Meadville, where she served with the Altar Guild and as President of the Altar Guild for many years.

A veteran of WW II, Mary entered the US Navy Nurse Corps on July 20, 1943 and served as an Ensign during WW II. Following her honorable discharge on December 4, 1944 she returned to Meadville and continued her nursing career. Over the years Mary was employed as a school nurse in the Crawford County area; she worked as a registered nurse in the Obstetric Department of the former Meadville City Hospital; as a Nursing Instructor at the former Meadville City Hospital School of Nursing and later became the Nursing School Director. Mary was then named the overall Director of Nursing for the former Meadville City Hospital, retiring in 1983. A graduate of Meadville High School, Mary earned her Registered Nurse Degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, her Bachelor of Science Degree from Villa Maria College and later, her Master's Degree from Edinboro College.

Mary was active with the Easter Seal Society and was a member of various community organizations. Although she was not a golfer, she enjoyed following golf and reading about it.

Mary is survived by three daughters Laurie E. Wellington and her husband John, Jr., Margaret E. Heald and her husband James, Anne Louise "Nancy" Bluxome and Blaine Thibault, all of Meadville, five grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Funeral Services will be held at Christ Episcopal Church, 870 Diamond Square, Meadville, at 11:00 AM on Friday, September 29, 2017, with Rebecca Lash, vicar, officiating.

Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband, Daniel, in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Crawford County, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, or Meadville Medical Center Foundation, 736 Liberty St., both in Meadville, PA 16335.
