Mary Hovenac of 31 N. Park Ave, Meadville, formerly of 15518 Harmonsburg Rd., Meadville, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016, on the day of her 90th birthday with her family by her side.

Mary was born in Meadville, on November 1, 1926, the daughter of the late Luco and Virginia (O'Valetta) Funciello.

On October 30, 1948 she married John Hovenac, he preceded her in death on March 1, 2012.

She was a member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.

After 30 years of service, Mary retired from the former Avtex Corp. which was previously known as FMC. Following the plant shut down Mary found employment many other places until she became employed as a part time evening secretary for the YWCA. She continued working there for 19 years, until her 82nd birthday. Mary graduated from Meadville High School. In her free time, she enjoyed being a member of the YWCA, keeping up with current events, volunteering for various organizations, working in her yard and planting flowers. She will be remembered for her love of people, especially children.

Mary is survived by two sons of whom she was very proud, Robert Hovenac of Meadville and his friend, Rita Trace, who was a great source of support, Ed Hovenac and his wife Mary of Springboro, OH, three grandchildren Laura, Katie and her husband Mike, and Brian who all meant the world to her, a sister Lucy Dividio of Meadville, a sister in law Paula Fish of Emmitsburg, MD, many nephews and nieces including Virginia "Ginny" Yurisic who helped her greatly during her illness.

In addition to her parents and her husband, John, of 63 years, Mary was preceded in death by three sisters Theresa Fera, Luci Funciello, Elizabeth "Betty" Yurisic, three brothers Louis, Dominick and Frank Funciello.

Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday, November 3, 2016, from 2-4 and 6-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut Street, Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, with Fr. Tom Trocchio, Parochial Vicar, officiating.

Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband, John, in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Research Institute, 55 Broadway, Suite 1802, New York, NY 10006 or Diabetes Research Institute 200 S. Park Road, Suite 100, Hollywood, FL 33021.
