Mary Louise Shaner, 56, of 760 Stewart St. Meadville, passed away Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at UPMC Medical Center, Pittsburgh.

Mary was born in Franklin, the oldest of five children, on June 22, 1959, a daughter of Mary Louise (Hart) and the late Clifford E. Wheeling.

On May 16, 2009 Mary married Terry Lee Shaner; he survives.

For the past 18 years Mary was employed by Crawford County Mental Health Awareness Program (CHAPS) where she worked as a Housing Advocate. She worked tirelessly to get proper housing for many individuals which earned her the nickname "Housing Hero". Mary also worked 2-3 night per week at the Drop In Center at the ARC of Crawford County. Additionally she was a care giver for the ARC for ten years, caring for three ladies who lived with her. She had just been chosen by Crawford Community Council to receive the 2016 Elmer M. Nelson Award for her distinguished service to the Crawford County community. Mary had previously been employed full time as a Kitchen Aide at Wesbury for 23 years, including the years she attended college. In 1998 Mary graduated from Edinboro University with a degree in Social Work. She graduated from Maplewood High School in 1977. She was a member of the Board of Directors of the Crawford County Coalition for Housing Needs. Some of her favorite pastimes were riding her Harley with her husband, Terry, camping, cooking, crocheting, gardening, attending water aerobics at the YMCA with her many friends, and spending time with her family. She will be missed by so many.

In addition to her husband, Terry, Mary is survived by a son Joseph A. Weber and his person Andrea of Marlborough, CT, a daughter Brenda M. Gray and her husband Cory of Atlantic, seven grandchildren Javan Gray, Dekan Gray, Sydney Weber, Charlee Weber, Logan Shaner, Sophie Shaner, Ben Shaner, her mother Mary Louise Wheeling of Cooperstown, two sisters Sally Crawford and her husband Gary of Franklin, Debra Nageotte and her husband Allen of Guys Mills, two brothers Clifford "Bud" Wheeling and his wife Charmin of Diamond, Monte Wheeling and his wife Valerie of Cooperstown, three dear and special friends whom she cared for and had lived with for ten years Elaine Theuret, Katie Miller and Stefanie Mayberry all of Meadville, nieces and nephews.

In addition to her father, Clifford E. Wheeling, Mary was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother Edna P. Dice and a great aunt Mabel Henry.

Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, March 27, from 6-8 PM at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville. Family and friends are also invited to call Monday from 12-4 at St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church,383 Arch St., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 4:00 PM with Tim Detal and Rose Hilliard officiating.
