Mary Massey

Mary Massey, 89, of Meadville, passed away Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Meadville Medical Center.

Mary was born in West Virginia, on May 9, 1932, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Lucy Rose Russ.

On November 25, 1948 Mary married William A. Massey, Jr.; he preceded her in death on November 15, 2020.

She was a member of United Faith Fellowship Church and in her earlier years had played the piano at St. John's Missionary Full Gospel Baptist Church and Boynton Street Church. For many years Mary was employed as a licensed practical nurse at the former Polk State Hospital, having earned her LPN Degree in Pittsburgh. In her younger years she styled women's hair. Mary enjoyed playing cards with her card club. Her hobbies including crocheting, especially blankets and vests for children, oil painting landscape scenes and painting portraits of her granddaughters. She was a great cook and baker and was especially known for her cobbler and pies. Mary found great joy in making others smile and laugh. She will be missed.

Mary is survived by two children Rose Marie Thomas of Baton Rouge, LA, Andrew Massey of Meadville; five grandchildren Rosalyn Thomas, Robyn Thomas, Ph.D., Wesley "Bud" Massey, Michael Massey, Andrea Massey; and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, William of 71 years, Mary was preceded in death by two children Shirley Massey, Wesley Massey, Sr.; a granddaughter Alicia Massey Taylor; and a brother James Arrington.

Family and friends are invited to call from 11-1 on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Home Going Service will follow at 1 PM, with Rev. Marvin Burnett officiating. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband, William, in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
