Melvin 'Duck' John Drake

Melvin 'Duck' John Drake, 86, of 19643 US Hwy. 6 & 19, Saegertown, passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center.
Melvin was born in River Rouge, MI on November 8, 1925, a son of the late John and Grace (Lathrope) Drake.
On January 18, 1947 Melvin married June A. Owen; she survives.
He was a member of Saegertown Community Church.
After 44 years of service, Melvin retired in 1981 from the former Jones Motor Company which was originally known as Erie Trucking Company. A very skilled truck driver, he was especially known for his precision in backing up. His trucking route took him from Erie to Meadville. He attended Beaver Dam Schools. A member of the Meadville Eagles Aerie #429, Melvin was also a member of the Local Teamsters Union. Melvin was a skilled man who enjoyed wood working, furniture making, plumbing and electrical work as well as gardening. Duck was a hard worker who took great pride in the two homes he built. His family was very important to him. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife June of 64 years, Melvin is survived by two children Larry J. Drake and his wife Lisa of Venango, Kimberly R. Green and her husband John W. of Saegertown, six grandchildren Lori McCollum and her husband Chris, Larry Drake, Jr. and his wife Angie, Terry Drake, Jason Green and his wife Angela, Jacque House and her husband Chris, Justin Green and his fiance Alicia Mase and eight great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Melvin was preceded in death by a granddaughter Lisa Joy Drake, and a sister Emaline Kirch.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave, Saegertown with Rev. Joseph Rial, Jr., Associate Pastor, officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saegertown Volunteer Fire Dept. PO Box 164, Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., both of Saegertown, PA 16433 or Visiting Nurse Association, 747 Terrace St., Meadville, PA 16335.
