Merle Dennis Borland, Sr., 83, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, September 18, 2021, at Marquette Hospice House.

Merle was born in Erie, on April 10, 1938, a son of the late Merle Joseph and Opal (Davis) Borland.

For 28 years he was married to Lenore Lyons Taylor Hubbell Borland; she preceded him in death on September 7, 2004. He had previously been married to Evelyn M. (McAndrews) Borland.

Merle had been employed by Goodyear Tire in Meadville. A US veteran, he entered the Marine Corps on November 6, 1958 and served his country until his honorable discharge on December 31, 1961. Merle enjoyed following the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Pittsburgh Pirates and NASCAR, especially his favorite driver, Jimmy Johnson. He was also a huge fan of WWE wrestling. Merle liked spending time at the Senior Center where he enjoyed daily lunch with his many friends. He was a card shark and loved to play 500 Rummy. Merle was a fun guy and never heard a bad joke that wasn't worth repeating. He loved to dance. The holidays were very special to Merle and he looked forward to each one of them. He will be sadly missed.

Merle is survived by his children Merle Dennis Borland, Jr. (Denise) of Meadville, with whom he lived, Tammy Mason (Timothy) of Meadville, Michael Borland (Holly) of Sewickley, Mary Borland of Meadville, Bob Borland of Union City, Glenn Borland of Lake City, John Hubbell (Marianne) of Edinboro, Richard Hubbell (Carol) of Cranesville; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; three sisters Carol Taylor (Wayne) of Cambridge Springs, Joanne Sommers (Clarence) of Conneaut Lake, Janet Greenley of Cambridge Springs; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Lenore, Merle was preceded in death by a brother Joseph James "Sonny" Borland; a sister Opal Hoffman; Lenore's children Vanessa Kendall, Harold Hubbell, Laura Lotfi, Larry Hubbell, and Melinda Neal.

Family and friends are invited to call from 3-6 PM on Monday, September 20, 2021 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where Funeral Services will follow at 6 PM with Pastor Phillip Thomas of Bible Baptist Church officiating.

Merle will be laid to rest next to his wife, Lenore, in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Erie, with Full Military Honors.

Memorial contributions may be made in Merle's name to Active Aging, 1034 Park Ave., Meadville, PA 16335.
