On Monday, December 17, 2018, Mildred "Millie" Marie (Samaj) Artman, also known as "Babe", of Weatherwood Manor, Greensburg, formerly of Meadville, went home to Heaven. She was 85 years old.
Millie was born in Tarentum on August 2, 1933, a daughter of the late Martin and Agnes (Hrebicek) Samaj.
She graduated Tarentum High School in 1951. After graduation, she worked as an office clerk at PPG in Creighton.
She married Roy E. Artman on July 23,1955. They were just weeks shy of celebrating their 56th anniversary when he passed away on July 5, 2011.
Millie was a homemaker and a loving, devoted mother and grandmother. While living in Meadville, she was an active member of Saint Brigid's Roman Catholic church where she enjoyed singing in the choir and serving with the Altar Rosary Society. She also enjoyed visiting those who were home-bound and residents of the local nursing homes.
Millie is survived by two children Daniel Artman (Mary Ellen) of Pittsburgh, Nancy Metz (Greg) of Greensburg, nine grandchildren Brooke Artman (with her mother, Jeania Anderson) of Illinois, Luke Artman of Pittsburgh, John Artman of Pittsburgh, Jeremy Artman (Kathy) of Texas, Ryan Artman (Jennifer) of Meadville, Adam Artman (Kristina) of Meadville, Casey Collier of Meadville, Clay Metz of Greensburg, Livvy Metz of Greensburg, and four great-grandchildren Emmalynn Artman, Dominik Artman, Docotah Artman, Mia Artman, a brother James Samaj of Coraopolis, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Millie was preceded in death by three sons Thomas Edward Artman, Howard W. "Doc" Artman, Roy M. Artman, a great-granddaughter Cecelia Artman, and two brothers Andrew Samaj and George Samaj.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, with Fr. Jeff Lucas, Pastor, officiating.
Interment will take place in Greendale Cemetery.
A very special thanks to honorary family members Mary Collins and Michelle Jackson for all the love and care they gave to Mom- words fall very short. Many thanks to the staff of Weatherwood Manor and Redstone Hospice. Your love, care, compassion, hugs and humor were such a huge blessing- not only to Millie but to her children and grandchildren as well. Thank you to Dianne Ehrgott, the Burkholder sisters, and all mom's friends and neighbors for checking on her & being helpful hands when she needed them.
Millie loved to give & donated to many different causes. That being said, it is hard to choose just one. So, in lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations may be made to your favorite charity. If you don't have one, some other ideas to consider- secretly pay for someone's meal, go visit someone, give someone a hug, or just do something to spread a little JOY.
Arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
