N. W. “Ike” Leonheart, 88, of Conneautville, formerly of Saegertown, passed away Sunday, August 16th, 2020, at Rolling Fields Eldercare Community, Conneautville.
Ike was born at home in Saegertown, on September 27, 1931, a son of the late Nellis W. and Ruth L. (Sheakley) Leonheart.
On December 22, 1953 Ike married Arlene W. Newhard; she preceded him in death on Aug. 15, 1984.
Ike was a graduate of Saegertown High School, Class of 1949 and was a veteran of the US Army where he served his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge. Ike retired in 1989 from Seco Warwick, formerly known as Sunbeam. In his earlier years he had been employed by Frontier Homes and the former American Viscose, Corp.
Over the years, Ike had been a member of VFW Post 2006 and Saegertown American Legion Post (#) 205. He enjoyed working BINGO for Saegertown American Legion Post (#) 205, Hayfield Volunteer Fire Dept. and at the Crawford County Fair. Ike's talents could be appreciated from his painted silk ties, ceramics, and dancing skills with his wife Arlene, and gardening in their younger years. He also enjoyed farming with his father-in-law and volunteering for the Angel Ministry. Ike will be remembered for his dry wit, turned-up, corner smile and as “Granddad” to many.
Ike is survived by two daughters Katherine "Kate" Leonheart of Meadville, Carol Armel (Len) of Saegertown, five grandchildren; Michelle Kaste (Steve) of Cochranton, Karen Triscas of Saegertown, Don Bivens of Saegertown, Brittany Orton (James) of Butler, Logan Bivens (Natalie) of Gambrills, MD, nine great grandchildren, two sisters; Mollie Gregg of Ashboro, NC, Betty Bartholomew of Lake Forest, CA; a sister-in-law Joan Leonheart, of Meadville; a brother-in law Ronald DeWoody of Moisertown, PA and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife Arlene of 31 years, Ike was preceded in death by two brothers Bert Leonheart, and Frank Leonheart; two sisters Mary George and Sarah DeWoody and his in-laws Malvin and Cecile Newhard.
Due to Covid, private visitation will be held at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC.
Private graveside services will be held with Pastor Mark Villars of Gospel Tabernacle officiating. These services will conclude with Full Military Honors. Ike will be laid to rest next to his wife, Arlene, in Brookhouser Cemetery.
