Norman C. Getchell, Ii

Norman Claire Getchell, 71, passed away on November 9, 2022, at Meadville Medical Center. He was surrounded by his loving siblings during these difficult days.

Norman was born in Baltimore, MD on February 21, 1951, a son of the late Norman and Beverly (Hoffer) Getchell. Subsequently Beverly was married to the late Maynard "Buck" Donahue for nearly 50 years and he was a major part of Norman's life.

After high school Norman enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served his country honorably from May 28, 1971 until June 8, 1973. Norm was an adventurous soul, traveling out West seeking new experiences. Eventually he moved back to Meadville.

At times Norm struggled with mental health issues but possessed an inner wisdom to know when to reach out for help. That help came from family and from CHAPS. Norman’s brothers and sisters were instrumental in providing transportation, inclusion in family events, well-meaning advice and what ever “Stormin’ Norman” needed to be happy. In his later years, Norman was a regular at the Journey Center and his participation in services offered by CHAPS had enabled him to live in safe housing and be an active participant in his community. He developed many long lasting friendships with clients as well as the staff at CHAPS.

Norman is survived by sisters Debbie Morgan (Al), Kathy Getchell; brothers Warner Getchell, Warren Getchell (Rita); step sisters Roxanna Ramella (Michael), Vienna Deitsch; step brother Brian Donahue; many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2-3 PM on Monday, November 14, 2022, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, with Funeral Services at 3 PM followed by Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006.

Norman will be laid to rest in Venango Cemetery.

The family would like to thank Marissa, NP, the ICU and Third Floor nurses at MMC, Dr. Lantsberg, Dr. Coffman and the staff at Embassy for the kindness and care shown to Norman.
