Norman "Cork" J. LaBruzzo, Sr., 93, of Meadville, passed away Monday, January 6, 2025, at home, surrounded by family.
Cork was born in Meadville, on June 17, 1931, a son of the late Joseph and Rose (Sugar) LaBruzzo.
On May 2, 1953, Cork married Marie J. Canella; she preceded him in death on June 18, 2019.
He was a member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church.
Cork grew up in Meadville until age 12 when his family moved to Buffalo, NY, and eventually returned to Meadville. A US veteran, Cork entered the US Navy on May 22, 1951 and served his country honorably until his discharge on May 18, 1955. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. He was a graduate of Edinboro College. Cork began his working career with MetLife Insurance. It wasn't long before pursued his desire to become an entrepreneur. His business endeavors were many and spanned over 65 years. From the former Savoy Club, Texas Lunch, Snug Lounge, Take Out Delight, Pizza Parlour, Cozy Corner, Good Pie Bakery, Happiness Is, and Pub on the Square, his most notable business was The 2001 VIP Clubs which operated in four cities. Cork's life was filled with love, family and wonderful friendships. The 65 year family friendship with Carl and Rosie Lynch was near and dear to his heart. The loving care provided by Gina Amato in his final days was a blessing to all. The family is grateful to all who shared his life in friendship. He had a remarkable life as a family man, a man of tremendous faith, and a successful business man. He was respected and loved by all who knew him. He will be sadly missed.
Cork is survived by four children Nancy Sacco, Joseph P. LaBruzzo (Lisa) both of Meadville, Kimberly Tyree (David) of Pittsburgh, Christopher LaBruzzo (Jan) of Meadville; seven grandchildren Joey Marie Porcelli (John), Joseph Sacco III (Amber), Jamie Gaglione, Jennifer Pittner (Dan), Michael Tyree, Katie Tyree, Danielle LaBruzzo; nine great grandchildren; a sister Linda GiGanti (Raymond) of Buffalo, NY; many nieces, nephews; and several wonderful friends including Theresa Amato, her late husband John, and the Preus family.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Marie, of 66 years, Cork was preceded in death by a son Norman J. LaBruzzo, Jr., a brother Gus "Captain" LaBruzzo; a sister Mary "Tootsie" Cappozzi; and son in law Joseph Sacco.
Family and friends are invited to call from 11 AM - 1 PM on Thursday, January 9, 2025, at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch St., Meadville, where a Mass of Resurrection will follow at 1 PM with Fr. Jeff Lucas, Pastor, officiating.
Cork will be laid to rest next to his wife, Marie, in St. Brigid Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
