Nyla J. Groves, 83, formerly of 602 Limber Rd., Meadville, passed away Monday, February 10, 2014, at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.

Nyla was born in Saegertown, on June 26, 1930, a daughter of the late James Alton and Bertha (Baker) Schlosser.

On July 1, 1950 Nyla married Patrick Groves; he preceded her in death on April 27, 2010.

She was an active member of Saegertown United Methodist Church where she volunteered her time with numerous activities. She was also a member of Saegertown Methodist Women.

After more than 30 years of service, Nyla retired from the former Talon, Inc. of Meadville where she had worked in various departments including the Inspection Dept. Following her retirement she established and operated her own painting and wallpapering business for many years. She was a 1948 graduate of Saegertown High School where she was a member of the girls basketball team. Nyla was a member Meadville Medical Center Auxiliary, Hayfield Grange, Saegertown Womans Improvement Club and served on the Crawford County Pageant Committee. Her greatest joys in life were going dancing with her husband, Pat, and spending time with her grandchildren, and with Ryan and Rachel Marsteller.

Nyla is survived by three daughters Karen Billingsley and her husband Ron of Pittsburgh, Judy Acker and her husband Ralph of Meadville, Pamela Christ and her husband George of Rogers, MN, six grandchildren Sarah Billingsley and her husband Joel Rosenblatt, Adam Billingsley and his wife Devin, Aaron Troy, Kaylan Morrell and her husband Matthew 'Bo', Zachery Christ and his wife Stacy, Wesley Christ and his wife Melissa, five great grandchildren Cash and Hank Morrell, Eva and Scarlett Billingsley, Margot Rosenblatt, two sisters Jo Ann Bidwell and her husband Robert of Saegertown, Diane Rossi of Richmond, VA, three brothers Ron Schlosser and his wife Shirley, Duane Schlosser and his wife Cheryl, Raymond Schlosser and his wife Patsy all of Saegertown, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to her father James Alton Schlosser, her mother Bertha Acker, and her husband Patrick of 59 years, Nyla was preceded in death by a sister Phyllis Porter and her husband Larry Porter, two nephews Larry Porter, Jr. and Tyson Schlosser.

Family and friends are invited to call on Friday from 3-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, and Saturday from 10-11 at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 15, 2014 with Lay Pastor Howard Roxberry, a special friend, officiating.

Nyla will be laid to rest next to her husband, Patrick, in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
