R. Blaine Schlosser, 85, of 18570 Grange Center Rd., Saegertown, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2015, at Crawford County Care Center.
Blaine was born at home in Saegertown on November 1, 1929, a son of the late Charles R. and Grace (Roberts) Schlosser.
On October 16, 1954 Blaine married Julia "Julie" Rendulic; she survives.
He was an active member of Saegertown United Methodist Church where he served as a Lay Leader, on the Board of Trustees and as a Sunday School teacher for high school aged students.
On March 31, 1991 Blaine retired as Penn State Crawford County Cooperative Extension Director where he had worked in various capacities including Senior Extension Agent, County Extension Director and Resource Development Agent. He was a 1959 graduate of Penn State University where he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Ed and in 1968 earned his Masters Degree in Counseling from Edinboro State College. A veteran of the US Army, Blaine served his country honorably from March, 1951 until his discharge in February 1953. He attained the rank of Sergeant while working in Intelligence as Operations Chief. A life member of Penn State Alumni Association and of the PA and National Association of County Agricultural Agents, he had also been a member of Crawford County Ag-Interests' Council, Meadville Round Table, the Crawford County Fair Board and was active in the Hayfield Grange. Blaine was the recipient of the Distinguished Service Award from the National Association of County Agricultural Agents, the Extension Award from the PA Dairyman's Association, the Keystone Farmers Degree and the Agricultural Achievement Award from Meadville Kiwanis Club. Additionally he was recognized by the Kellogg Public Affairs Leadership Program, Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society, Gamma Sigma Delta Honor Society in Agriculture and Alpha Tau Alpha Honor Fraternity in Agricultural Education. An avid Penn State fan, Blaine was an outdoor enthusiast who loved golfing and hunting. He will be missed by his many family and friends.
In addition to his wife, Julie, of 60 years, Blaine is survived by three children Roger Schlosser and his wife June of Saegertown, Randall B. Schlosser of Edinboro, Lisa Callan of Saegertown, six grandchildren Ashley Lang and her husband Tony, Matthew Schlosser and his wife Brittany, Andrew Schlosser and his wife Ally, Maxwell Schlosser, Michael Callan, Emily Callan, a newborn great grandson August Blaine Lang who was born on the date of his great grandfather's death, two sisters Thelma Miller of Saegertown, Zola Gillette of Linesville, the Schlosser family's Brazilian foreign exchange student Anna and her family Erico and Luane, who were like family, numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Blaine was preceded in death by three sisters Elsie Seneta, infants Reatha and Leatha Schlosser, three brothers in law Arthur Miller, Eugene Gillette and Orest Seneta.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville.
Funeral Services will be held at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 26th, with Rev. Darrell L. Greenawalt, Pastor, officiating.
Following full military honors by VFW Post #2006, Blaine will be laid to rest in Saegertown Cemetery.
