Rachel J. Carpenter, 70, of PO Box 502 , Meadville, passed away Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Meadville Medical Center
Rachel was born in Geneva on May 12, 1941, a daughter of Raymond A.L. Tipton and the late Martha (Shull) Tipton.
On June 24, 1967 Rachel married Harley D. Carpenter, Jr.; he preceded her in death on April 4, 2010.
She was a member of Wesleyan Methodist Church of Meadville.
Rachel began her nearly 20 year nursing career at the former Spencer Hospital, where she was employed for six years before working at Wesbury Nursing Home, both of Meadville. For the next several years she worked for her husbands family business, Carpenter Electric, before returning to nursing at Wesbury Nursing Home, Meadville, then Beverly Enterprise, Cambridge Springs. A 1960 graduate of Conneaut Valley High School, Rachel attended Springboro schools in her earlier years. She went on to attend the former Spencer Hospital School of Nursing and became a Certified Nursing Aide and an L.P.N. From 1981 until 2000 Rachel and her husband were actively involved with the American Rescue Workers. During this time they visited numerous churches throughout the Crawford County area to raise support for the American Rescue Workers. As Rachels husbands health began to fail, she gave wonderful care and devotion to him for the next 13 years. Rachel will be sorely missed by the Shull sisters as they were like her daughters.
