Ralph 'Lou' J. Mangino, 85, of Hunters Ridge Blvd., Meadville, passed away Saturday, October 19, 2013, at Meadville Medical Center.

Ralph was born in Meadville, on January 9, 1928, a son of the late Frank and Lena (Trozzi) Mangino.

On January 9, 1954, his twenty-sixth birthday, Ralph married Madeline Ricci ; she survives.

After nearly 30 years of service, Ralph retired from the Railroad where he had worked as a Brakeman as well as Conductor. He was also the owner of the former Dantes Restaurant on 322, Meadville, for many years. In his earlier years he had worked for the former Firchs Bakery, Meadville. A U.S. Army Veteran, Ralph served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict, having spent much of his service time in Germany. Ralph was a member of VFW Post #2006 and of the I.C.C. Club. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and following the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. Being one of ten children, Ralph loved and was very proud of his large family as well as his Italian heritage. He was a people person with a great personality. He loved to make others laugh; but his greatest love in life was his grandchildren. He cherished the times he spent with them especially when he and his wife baby-sat them for long stretches at a time. He will be sadly missed.

In addition to his wife Madeline of 59 years, Ralph is survived by three daughters Lynn M. Spadacene and her husband Joseph, Joni Mangino Selep and her husband Joseph both of Pittsburgh, Jill Mangino Brown and her husband Darryl of Watkinsville, GA, eight grandchildren Ricci Lynn Spadacene, David Joseph Spadacene, Sara Mangino Spadacene, Justin Joseph Selep, Joseph Ralph Selep, Jordan Elizabeth Selep, Corey Michael Brown, Connor Joseph Brown, five sisters Angie Mangino, Joan Baiera both of Meadville, Betty Bailey and her husband Donald of Florida, Terry Guzzo and her husband John of DuBois, Rose Frisina and her husband Anthony of Meadville, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

In addition to his parents, Ralph was preceded in death by a brother Michael Mangino, three sisters Florence Wildrick, Louise Surano and Josephine Cervone.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 2-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Scripture Service will be conducted at 6 PM.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, with Fr. Matthew Kujawinski, officiating.

Interment with full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, PA 16335.
