Rebecca D. Tipton, 57, of 179 Ciro Ave, San Jose, CA, died peacefully, at her home, Saturday, July 10, 2010; surrounded by family and friends, after an extended illness.
She was born in Meadville, PA, June 27, 1953, the daughter of Raymond A. L. and Martha Ellen Shull Tipton. She graduated from Conneaut Valley High School in 1971. She graduated from William Penn College, 1976, in Oskaloosa, Iowa; with a degree in Sociology and Human Relations, and a minor in Religion. She spent her life working with disabled adults. She retired April 30, 2010, from San Andreas Regional Center, as a Service Coordinator for mentally disabled adults.
She was a woman with many interests, including her cocker spaniels, Kelsey and Chinito; her rose garden, traveling, and was an avid reader. She was a member of the Bethel Church in San Jose.
Survivors include her father, her special friends, Marcy N. Epperson and Chris Furdiga Bernardo. She is also survived by one sister, Rachel Carpenter, three brothers, Rev. Duane Tipton and his wife, June; Myron Tipton and his wife, Diana; and Raymond L. Tipton, M.D.; five nieces, Patty Messina, Brenda Teitz, Lorine Close, Sophia Betts, and Martha Smith; three nephews, Duane, Troy, and Myron K. Tipton.
She was preceded in death by her mother, a brother-in-law, and a sister-in-law.
Calling hours will be, 11:00 AM to 1:00PM on Saturday, July 17, at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut Street, Meadville, PA 16335 where Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 PM, with Pastor Randy Gorske officiating.
Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Vernon Township.
The family suggest memorials be made to the American Cancer Society, specifically for lung cancer research., 320 Bilmar Dr. Pittsburgh, PA 15205-4620 or the Nazarene Church, 139 South Main Street, Springboro, PA, 16435.
