Rev. Philip A. Torre

Rev. Philip Albert Torre, 73, of Meadville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2021, at home following a courageous 5 1/2 year battle with pancreatic cancer. His loving wife, Lois and devoted daughter, Melissa, who both cared for him unconditionally, were by his side.

Philip was born in Brooklyn, NY, on July 20, 1948, a son of the late Domenick and Vincenza Torre.

On July 16, 1972 Philip married Lois M. Benevento; she survives.

Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Rev. Torre was a 1966 graduate of Alexander Hamilton High School. For the three years that followed, he attended School of Architecture before enrolling in the former Zion Bible Institute, where he majored in Pastoral Studies and graduated in 1972. His first assignment was in his home church, Christian Church of Canarsie in Brooklyn, where he assisted Rev. LaGatta. Rev. Torre then relocated to Farrell, PA, and became the Youth Pastor of Farrell Christian Assembly before becoming Pastor of Evangelical Full Gospel Congregation in Collinsville, IL. The ministry then led Rev. Torre to become the Associate Pastor of the former Easton Assembly of God in Easton, PA. In 1987 he became the Pastor of First Assembly of God in Meadville, from where he retired in June, 2021. He was Executive Vice President of the Board of Directors of Caleb International Ministries for 30 years. In addition to his governance responsibilities, he was part of the Teaching Team for the Caleb Leadership Institutes in India, Ghana, Brazil, and Europe. Rev. Torre possessed a deep seeded spirit of caring for others. He faithfully volunteered at Wesbury United Methodist Community, visiting, and caring for the many resident of Grace, which he loved doing. He enjoyed all types of music, especially Christian music. An avid fan of all New York professional sports teams, he also loved New York style pizza. His greatest joys in life were serving his God and time spent with family. He will be deeply missed.

In addition to his best friend and devoted helpmate, Lois, of 49 years, Philip is survived by two daughters Melissa Marie Torre who honorably and faithfully cared for him, and Michele Renee Torre; a sister Anna Poppa (Rev. Mike) and their daughters Kristen and Laurie Poppa, all of Easton.

Private services will be held at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, with Rev. Louis LaGatta, of New Castle, PA, a colleague and one of his closest friends, officiating.

The family would like to thank the Barco Oncology Institute as well as Hospice of Crawford County for the wonderful care they provided.

Memorial contributions may be made in Rev. Torre's memory to Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
