Richard C. Lower, 93, of Meadville, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2020, at Wesbury, following a short illness.

He was born to Melville and Gracia (Cranz) Lower on May 20, 1927 in Ravenna, OH. He lived in Kent, OH, but spent the majority of his life in Meadville.

He married Marilyn Emich on May 28, 1955, a union that lasted 65 loving years.

Richard was a graduate of Kent State High School and attended Kent State University in Ohio. He was employed at his father's gas station but enlisted in the US Coast Guard in 1943. Assigned to the USS Calway 35, he spent part of his service in Panama. After serving his country honorably, he was employed by Youngman's Construction Company. The majority of his employed years was spent with Erie Lackawanna Railroad, starting in the train yards, before moving to fireman, and finally as an engineer with Conrail, where he remained for 43 years.

Richard attended First Christian Church and was a life member of Masonic Lodge #325. He played a large part in construction of the Masonic Lodge building on route 27 in Meadville. He was a member of Black Ash Sportsman's Club, assisting weekly with maintenance and organization of gun target shoots. He enjoyed traveling with his wife through all 50 states, and over twenty world wide cruises. In his later years he was content to attend weekly breakfasts with his retired friends, calling themselves the ROMEOS (Retired Old Men Eating Out Somewhere).

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, survivors include his daughter Dawn M. Henry (Robert) of Middletown, DE.

He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Stephen; sisters Marian Hartstock (Osward), Jean Witter (Paul); brother Robert G. Lower, various nieces and nephews.

Per Richard's request, there will be no services.

Richard will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.
