Richard Joseph Severo, 73, of 455 Jefferson St., Meadville, passed away Monday, February 28, 2011 at Meadville Medical Center.
Richard was born in Meadville on August 29, 1937, a son of the late Joseph and Catherine (Sipos) Severo.
On January 3, 1959 Richard married Katherine A. Piccirillo; she survives.
He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
For the past 21 years, Richard was employed by United Community Independent Programs (UCIP) of Meadville. He had previously retired from the former Abex Corp. after 25 years of service. He attended St. Brigid Catholic School. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Richard entered the US Navy on November 10, 1954. Following his honorable discharge on July 24,1958, Richard went on to receive his high school diploma and attended Edinboro College for two years. A member of the Italian Civic Club, Richard was a former member of the Meadville Eagles Club. A fan of all sports, Richard enjoyed following professional sports, college sports, especially Penn State, and Meadville High School basketball and football. In his earlier years Richard enjoyed golfing, hunting and fishing. His greatest enjoyment was following the events of his granddaughter, Alexa, whether she was skating, performing on stage, or singing in church, as he was her number one fan.
In addition to his wife Katherine of 52 years, Richard is survived by three children Leanne Severo of Meadville, Joseph Severo of Hawaii, Stephanie Severo of Meadville, a granddaughter Alexa L. Lobins of Meadville, a sister Irene Barry of Meadville, a brother Robert Severo and his wife Sharon of Meadville, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a brother Louis Severo, three sisters Katherine Peterson, Anna Severo and Norma Severo.
Family and friends are invited to call on Thursday from 4-7 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a scripture service will be conducted at 5:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, at 1:30 PM on Friday, March 4, 2011, with Fr. Raymond Gramata, Pastor, officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006 will take place in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
