Robert "Bob" Charles Leberman, 82, of Rector, passed away Tuesday, March 10, 2020, at home.
Bob was born in Meadville, on April 3, 1937, a son of the late Charles and Mary (Nodine) Leberman.
Born and raised in Meadville, Bob developed a deep interest in birds during his childhood. As a young adult his interest grew stronger and in 1958 he began to band birds on his own. In the years following, he became a senior research scientist at Carnegie Museum of Natural History and one of the most adept songbird banders in the US. He was able to expertly identifying as well as determine age and gender of countless birds. His expertise also called him to Central America to study North American migrant birds. In 1976 he published a detailed book on the area birds for Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Practically self taught, Bob's childhood hobby became his lifelong profession. His other interests included collecting stamps and collecting old letters pertaining to oil companies as well as bird banding.
Bob is survived by a brother Ronald Leberman of Meadville and was preceded in death by his parents.
