Robert 'Bob' D. Buckeye, Sr., 83, of 680 Ellis Ave., Meadville, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Meadville Medical Center.

Bob was born on May 21, 1931 in Osceola Mills, Clearfield County, a son of the late Joseph and Anna Solensky-Buckeye.

Bob married Cecelia A. Yokobosky on November 26, 1955, at St. Josephs Catholic Church in Osceola Mills; she survives.

He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.

Bob was a 1950 graduate of Osceola Mills High School. He was a US Air Force veteran of the Korean and Vietnam Conflicts, a recipient of the Air Force Good Conduct medal, Korean Service medal, United Nations Service medal, National Defense medal, Commendation ribbon, Outstanding Unit award and Expert Marksmanship medal. Assignments were in Tokyo, Japan, recruiting at Olmsted Air Force Base, Middleton and OSI in Wiesbaden, Germany. His last tour of duty was ROTC at Allegheny College. The ROTC cadets selected him as an Honorary Member of the General Arnold Air Society. He retired from the US Air Force with twenty-one years of service on September 1, 1972, and retired from the Department of Transportation in Crawford County as foreman in 1991 with nineteen years of service. Bob was a Democratic Meadville City Committee member and county chairman. He was a member of Saegertown American Legion Post #205 and VFW Post #2006. A beloved and devoted husband, father and grandfather, Bob dearly loved his adopted stray pets, two cats and dog, who provided him with such comfort and joy during his illness.

In addition to his wife, Cecelia, of 58 years, Bob is survived by a daughter Rhonda Williams of Dayton, OH, a son Robert D. Buckeye Jr. and his wife Carole of Cochranton, grandsons Brock Williams of Dayton, OH, Adam Williams of Meadville, two sisters Irene Coyle of Saegertown and Barbara Shimmel of Illinois.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by seven sisters and two brothers.

Services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Following Full Military Honors by VFW Post #2006, Bob will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.

Memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of Crawford County, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, PA 16335.

The family would like to express their deep gratitude and appreciation to the nurses on 3 North at Meadville Medical Center for their loving care. The care given during his final days was exemplary.
