Robert 'Bob' J. Barickman, 70, of 25591 State St., Blooming Valley, passed away Monday, December 16, 2013 at Meadville Medical Center following a courageous two year battle with cancer.
Bob was born in Meadville, on September 16, 1943, a son of the late Leo F. and Annette (Hope) Barickman.
On September 17, 1966 Bob married Barbara A. Marak; she survives.
He was a member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.
After 39 years of service, Bob retired in 2005 as owner and operator of Barickman Welding which he had purchased in 1976. Prior to purchasing the business, he began his employment there in 1964 when it was known as Marceca Welding Supplies. A US Veteran, Bob entered the Navy on August 31, 1961 and served his country honorably until his discharge on July 31, 1964. He was a 1961 graduate of the former Randolph/East Mead High School. Bob was a member of West Mead II, VFW Post #2006, American Legion Post #205, FOE Eagles #429 and Elks BPO #219. Bob was an avid outdoorsman enjoying both fishing and hunting. He enjoyed his time at camp located in Scandia, his card-playing and golfing buddies, his trips to the area casinos, his Black Lake fishing trips with Tom and Chuck, but most of all he cherished the time spent with his grandchildren Evin and Claire 'Clarabell'.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, of 47 years, Bob is survived by two children Michael 'Mitch' Barickman and his wife Teresa, a daughter Karen S. Barickman, both of Blooming Valley, two grandchildren Evin Barickman, Claire Barickman (whom Bob lovingly referred to as Clarabell), two sisters Joanne Boyle and her husband Bruce P. of Clearwater, FL, Mary Lou Kesslar and her husband Robert of Conneaut Lake, three brothers James Barickman and his wife Margaret of Erie, Lawrence 'Dutch' Barickman and his wife Carolyn, Richard Barickman both of Guys Mills, many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Annette Barickman.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 3-6 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where a Scripture Service will be conducted at 5:30 PM.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, 353 Pine St., Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Thursday, December 19th, with Fr. Johnathan Schmolt, Pastor of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church, officiating.
Interment with Full Military Honors will take place in Blooming Valley Cemetery at a later date.
