Robert M. 'Mike' Stearns, 57, of 615 North Street, Meadville, sadly lost his valiant and courageous 3 year battle with bladder cancer, on the early morning of Sunday, April 25, 2010, while surrounded by his loving wife, Andrea, and family.
Mike was born in Meadville on September 23, 1952, a son of Shirley (Keihl) Stearns and the late Robert L. Stearns.
He was of the Methodist faith.
On June 8, 1974 Mike married his best friend and the love of his life, Andrea Maurana; they shared 35 wonderful years together.
Growing up, Mike attended First District Elementary School. He was always proud of being a crossing patrol boy at Market, Randolph and Water Streets. In his teenage years he attended Saegertown High School where he was very active in sports and was a very proud member of the Saegertown High School class of 1970. After graduation, he became employed by Erie Lackawanna Railroad (later known as Conrail) as a car man apprentice. He completed his apprenticeship in 1974. He became a very skilled welder. He also was employed at Hammermill paper, Warren Rail Car, Genesee & Wyoming Railroad and his present day employer Advanced Welding of Erie. Mikes hobbies included hunting, fishing and golfing.
In addition to his wife Andrea of 35 years, Mike is survived by two sons Jason Robert Stearns of Saegertown, Justin Michael Stearns of Meadville, a dear grandson Thaddeus Stearns, his mother Shirley Stearns and her companion Jim Brink of Meadville, a sister Jeanetta Stemm and her husband Steve of Michigan, two brothers David L. Stearns and his wife Jeanne of Saegertown, William K. Stearns and his wife Candy of Cochranton. his mother-in-law Lois Maurana, a sister-in-law Carleen Wilkinson, a brother-in-law Mark Maurana and his wife Anna all of Saegertown, seven nephews Bob and Bill Hargenrater, Steve Stemm, Scott and Matt Stearns, Todd and Ryan Stearns, a niece Jennifer Maurana, several dear aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and great nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his father Robert L. Stearns, his paternal grandparents Lawrence and Eva Stearns, his maternal grandparents Sam and Faye Keihl, his father-in-law Carl Maurana and a dear brother-in-law George Wilkinson.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 1-4 and 7-9 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, PA 16335 where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, April 28, 2010, with Rev. Kenneth Custer, Pastor of Saegertown United Methodist Church, officiating.
Interment will take place in Saegertown Cemetery, Hayfield Twp.
