Rodney Laurent Gigone

Rodney Laurent Gigone, 77, of Meadville, passed away Friday, March 3, 2023, at Marquette Hospice House.

Rodney was born in Meadville, on September 24, 1945, a son of the late Ernest Francis and Frances P. (Hart) Gigone.

On July 14, 1979 Rodney married Diane Marie Wellmon; she survives.

He was a member of Denny Chapel.

Rodney was a 1963 graduate of Meadville High School and a veteran of the US Marines. He retired from the Crawford County Courthouse in 2016 where he had been employed since 1987 in data processing, information services and election departments. He was previously employed by the former Avtex Corp starting his 20 year career in the Lab and retiring as supervisor of Data Processing.

A member of the Meadville Coin Club, Rodney was also a member of the Board of Directors of the Meadville Credit Union for over 20 years where he had served as president. To say Rodney was an avid reader or a big public library user is an understatement. It was common to see him with a book or kindle in hand and he was know to be reading three or four different books at the same time. He enjoyed playing softball, chess, and cards, especially Texas Hold'em. He was fortunate to travel to Las Vegas, NV in 2021 to compete in the World Series of Poker as an individual, and the Senior World Series as a Team with his partner Kevin Stern. The time spent with his wife, children and grandchildren meant the most to him.

In addition to his wife, Diane of 43 years, Rodney is survived by two daughters Krista Gigone (Dr. Eric Shang) of Bethlehem, Kendra Fischer (Sam) of Meadville; four grandchildren Theodore "Teddy" Shang, Frederick "Freddy" Shang, Henry Fischer, Eva "Evee" Fischer; two brothers in law Keith Wellmon (Nancy) of Meadville, Kevin Wellmon (Geri) of Okeechobee, FL; two sisters in law Joyce Gigone of Meadville, Brenda Wellmon of Fort Worth, TX; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents Rodney was preceded in death by a brother Gary Gigone; infant sister Sonja Lee Gigone; brother in law David Wellmon.

Visitation is from 3-6 PM on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where services will take place on Wednesday at 10 AM.  

Rodney will be laid to rest at Greendale Cemetery.
