Ronald "Ron" R. DeWoody

Ronald "Ron" R. DeWoody, 89, of Meadville, formerly of Mosiertown, passed away Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at Meadville Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Ron was born in Meadville, on December 29, 1935, a son of the late Clarence and Winifred (Loper) DeWoody.

On July 1, 1954 Ron married Sarah Leonheart; she preceded him in death on October 27, 2013.

Ron was a graduate of Meadville High School and Vocational School. While growing up, he worked at the former Lincoln Market and at the age of 17 he became employed by the former American Brakeshoe, later known as Abex. After 33 years of service there, he retired in 1988. It wasn't long before Ron gained employment with Saegertown Manufacturing, where he worked until his second retirement. He raised his family in Mosiertown where he lived for over 65 years. He had been a member of Saegertown American Legion Post #205, VFW Post #2006, Vernon Volunteer Fire Hall and the Meadville Elks BPO #219. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards, especially Euchre. Time with family is what Ron enjoyed the most. He looked forward to following the sporting and school events of his grandchildren and the big annual 4th of July picnic. Ron loved family togetherness. He will be sadly missed.

Ron is survived by four children Dave DeWoody (Cindy) of Saegertown, Rona Johnson (David) of Meadville, Carl DeWoody (Mary) of Saegertown, Rita Yurcak (Michael) of Cambridge Springs; ten grandchildren Lori Connick, Julie Moses (Manny), Jeremy DeWoody (companion Becki Dithrich), Kevin Johnson (Holly), Eric Johnson (Michele), Joseph DeWoody (Courtney), Amy Dunn, Heather Harris, Donell Smiley (George), Nicole Franz (Carl); 22 great grandchildren; a sister Lois Peters of Meadville; numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife Sarah of 59 years, Ron was preceded in death by a great granddaughter Madison "Maddie" Johnson; two sisters Sandy and Judy.

Family and friends are invited to call from 3-7 PM on Monday, April 14, 2025, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where Funeral Services will follow at 7 PM, with Pastor Eric Flint of Living Hope Community Church officiating.

Ron will be laid to rest with his wife, Sarah, in Rundeltown Cemetery, Conneautville.
