Ruth H. Ritenour, 97, of 20881 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, formerly of 22017 N. Mosiertown Rd., Saegertown, passed away Saturday, December 5, 2015 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown, where she had been a resident since October of 2009.
Ruth was born in Meadville, on November 3, 1918, a daughter of the late Walter Monroe and Electa (Deckman) Putnam.
On June 4, 1936 Ruth married Eugene "Gene" Ritenour; he preceded her in death on May 9, 2007.
She became a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church on August 14, 1955 making her a member for 60 years.
Ruth retired from the former G.C. Murphy Co. after 14 years of service. She had previously been employed in the Spinning Department of the former American Viscose Corp. and as a waitress at the former Kessler's Diner. She had been a member of the United Methodist Women and the Woodcock Ladies. She enjoyed bowling and was a member of the Tuesday Night Bowling League. Her other hobbies included crocheting, knitting and working with plastic canvas. She made hundred of angels and contributed countless plastic canvas picture frames, angels and decorations to "Family Affairs" which is the family's Relay for Life Team. Although a full time resident of Crawford County Care Center, at the young age of 92 she began entering her crafts in the Crawford County Fair in the summer of 2010. Over the years she won several Blue Ribbons and Grand Prizes. In 2015 she received the Judges' Choice Award which earned her a State Seal Award for her plastic canvas wall hanging of Jesus praying in the garden of Gethsemane.
Ruth is survived by a daughter Phyllis Baer of Saegertown, three grandchildren Jane Gable and her husband Tim of Meadville, Susan Dagney and her husband Mike of Virginia Beach, VA, April Archacki and her husband Dennis of Saegertown, five great grandchildren Jonathon Gable and his wife Stephanie, Mark Gable and his fiance' Stephanie, Matthew Gable, Lynai Kobbe and her husband Junior, Sean Dagney, seven great great grandchildren, a son-in-law John Klingensmith of Ripley, NY, an adopted granddaughter Diane Taylor and her husband Bill, two adopted great granddaughters Lauren and Kendra Taylor.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Gene of 70 years, Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Betty Rae Klingensmith, a son-in-law Lawrence Baer, two brothers Clarence Putnam, Floyd Putnam, two sisters Elsie Walters and Opal Webb.
Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 2-4 and 6-8 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Saegertown United Methodist Church, 620 Euclid Ave., Saegertown, with Rev. Darrell L. Greenawalt, Pastor, officiating.
Ruth will be laid to rest next to her husband, Gene, in Venango Cemetery.
