Salvatore "Sam" P. Barretta

Salvatore "Sam" P. Barretta, 88, of 19731 Park St., Meadville, and 721 Roma Road, Venice, FL, passed away Wednesday, January 24, 2018, at home surrounded by his three loving daughters.

Salvatore was born in Meadville, on March 10, 1929, a son of the late Peter and Rosalia (Lupo) Barretta.

On December 8, 1973 he married Margaret June Green; she preceded him in death on April 21, 2011.

After 34 years of service Salvatore retired in 1992 from Magnetics/Spang where he was employed as Draftsman Supervisor Project Manager and Design Engineer. Additionally he proudly began his own business, Mead Metal Fab Company, in 1974 which he owned and operated until his second retirement in 1995. Following his 1947 graduation from Meadville High School, Salvatore entered the Army in 1948 where he attained the rank of Sgt 1st Class. Among his service locations were Camp McCalley in Salzburg, with the 583rd Engineers in Vienna, Austria, at Camp Belly, KY and Ft. Bliss in El Paso, TX. He received training in electronics and chemical, biological and radiological warfare. He was honorably discharged in 1954. He was a lifetime member of Meadville Rescue Squad, joining in 1957.

Sam considered his three daughters the greatest accomplishments of his life. He delighted in taking his family to Hawaii in 1975 and he and June enjoyed many cruises and trips to Las Vegas. Sam worked hard all of his life and was proud to have bought property on Roma Road in Venice, Florida where he spent the cold six months of the year. "You don't have to shovel sun". He then enjoyed his home on Park Street in Meadville during the summer. It was in Florida that he made many dear friends. His car-port parties were the hit of the neighborhood and he looked forward to all the park activities, especially decorating the golf cart for parades and socializing at the park dinners. He also enjoyed gardening, feeding the birds, fishing, doing yard work and engineering gadgets trying to make life easier for others. Nothing gave him more joy in life than being surrounded by his family. He will be deeply missed.

Salvatore is survived by three daughters Kimberly Barretta-Heer and her husband Joe of Winon, MN, Cindy Barretta-Bowersox and her husband Scott, Sandra Barretta-Kreuger and her husband Don, both of Meadville, Seven grandchildren Nichole Pugh of Winona, MN, Angela Rodriguez and her husband Abel of Flagstaff, AZ, Amy Boettiger and her fiance Nate Kenny, Sam Boettiger and his wife Ashley, Amanda McHale-Burke, Megan McHale-Sutton and her husband Chad, and Zachary Boor all of Meadville, Six great grandchildren Dylan Waldera of Winona, MN, Mason Burke, Lillian Noel, Alivia Sutton all of Meadville, Zane and Maxwell Rodriguez of Flagstaff, AZ, and a brother Tony Barretta and his wife Patty of Virginia.
