Sarah M. DeWoody, 78, of 21465 Grange Center Rd., Saegertown, passed away Sunday, October 27, 2013 at Meadville Medical Center.
Sarah was born in Saegertown, on January 18, 1935, a daughter of the late Nellis E. and Ruth L. (Sheakley) Leonheart.
On July 1, 1954 Sarah married Ronald R. DeWoody; he survives.
She was of the Protestant Faith.
In 1994 Sarah retired from Fostermation where she had worked in Production. In her earlier years she had been employed by GTI of Saegertown, and the former Talon, Inc. of Meadville. She was a 1952 graduate of Saegertown High School. Sarah was a member of Saegertown American Legion Post #205. She enjoyed playing BINGO but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her heart. When they were young, she loved to baby-sit them and when they were older, she loved to attend all of their sporting, 4-H, musical and school activities.
In addition to her husband, Ronald of 59 years, Sarah is survived by four children Dave R. DeWoody and his wife Cindy S. of Saegertown, Rona M. Johnson and her husband David R. of Meadville, Carl E. DeWoody and his wife Mary K. of Saegertown, Rita M. Yurcak and her husband Michael of Cambridge Springs, ten grandchildren Lori Connick and her companion Jeff Brooks, Julie Moses and her husband Manny, Jeremy DeWoody and his companion Lindsay Goldsmith, Kevin R. Johnson and his wife Holly, Eric D. Johnson and his wife Michele, Joseph DeWoody, Amy DeWoody, Heather Wheeler and her husband Brad, Donell Smiley and her husband George, Nicole Beck and her husband Jake, 19 great grandchildren, two sisters Mollie Gregg of North Carolina, Betty Bartholomew of California, a brother Ike Leonheart of Saegertown, a sister-in-law Joan Leonheart of Meadville, numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by two brothers Bert Leonheart, Frank Leonheart and a sister Mary George.
Family and friends are invited to call on Tuesday from 3-6 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where Funeral services will be held at 6:00 PM with Pastor Sherman Skeens of Carmel Baptist Church officiating.
Interment will take place in Rundeltown Cemetery, Conneautville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Yolanda G. Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the 3rd North staff of Meadville Medical Center as well as Saegertown Volunteer Fire Dept. for their service, dedication and fine care that was provided to the family.
