Shaun Michael Althouse, 35, of 10667 Perry Hwy., Meadville, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2018, as the result of an automobile accident on State Highway 27, Guys Mills.
Shaun was born in Huntingdon, on October 14, 1982, a son of Thomas and Nancy (States) Althouse.
On October 2, 2011 Shaun married his college love Melissa Amy Barber; she survives.
In August, 2017, Shaun became employed as a Library Specialist at the University of Pittsburgh, Titusville. He had worked and lived throughout the US and made close friends who were like family, wherever he was. His life was an adventure which included experiences in the Himalayas, Peru, China, and honeymooned in Ireland. Shaun earned his BA from Green Mountain College, Poultney, VT where he majored in History and Philosophy. He loved volunteering his time working with children and had recently been volunteering at Erie National Wildlife Refuge. He enjoyed being outdoors and was an amateur craft brewer. Shaun had a talent for turning everything into a game. A light hearted and genuine man, Shaun had the ability to deal with difficult circumstances and had a deep appreciation for all of life's experiences and relationships. His demeanor was upbeat, his personality was charismatic, his sense of humor was constant and he was accepting of everyone. Shaun will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his wife, Melissa of six years, Shaun is survived by his mother Nancy States of Meadville, his father Thomas Althouse of Ontario, sister Terrace L'Rae Althouse and her companion Jacob Rios of Honolulu, HI, half-brother Aiden Althouse of Ontario. He is also survived by maternal grandmother A. Arlene States of Huntingdon, paternal grandparents John and Patricia Althouse, Warrington.
He was preceded in death by a brother Kirk Daniel Althouse, maternal grandfather Paul R. States.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 6-7 PM at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where funeral services will take place at 7 PM with Rev. Jeff Conley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Children and Nature Network, 808 14th Ave. SE, Minneapolis, MN 55414.
