Shawn Ryan Simmons

Shawn Ryan Simmons was chosen to go home on December 25, 2023, at the age of 60 after a long battle with cancer. Shawn was diagnosed with brain cancer over 5 years ago when he was given less than 6 months to live, but in his predictable Shawn fashion, he refused to heed the words of his doctors and outlasted their dire diagnosis.

Shawn was born in Meadville on July 29, 1963.

He was preceded in death by his father Jack, mother Jacqueline and older brother John. He is survived by his sisters Kathy and Laurie and his brothers Steven and Kevin (Dianne)

His greatest loves were his multiple German Shepherds, whom he affectionately named JD. He took pride in caring for each of them; walking and running them in parks, throwing toys, grooming, training, and loving them. His last JD left him just days before his passing and his “pack” is now reunited with their loving keeper. Shawn was an avid landscaper, keeping his properties in meticulous condition and helping his close neighbors with their yards as well.

He resided in Hollywood, Florida after relocating from Key West due to Hurricane Irma. Until his illness sidelined him, he worked in restaurant hospitality as a manager.

He will be best remembered for his lightning quick wit, great sense of humor and his never-ending pranks with his brothers and sisters.  He will be sadly missed.
