Shirley A. Butts

Shirley A. Butts, 79, of 13189 Laurel Dr., Apt. 1363 Meadville, passed away Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at home.

Shirley was born in Meadville, on May 28, 1936, a daughter of the late Walter and Beatrice (Gardner) Gorman.

Shirley was married to Richard E. Butts, Sr.; he preceded her in death.

Shirley was employed by the Pennsylvania State Department of Public Assistance for many years. She had previously been employed by Bethesda Children's Home for five years and had worked for a family for 20 years. She graduated from Edinboro College with a degree in Elementary Education.

Shirley is survived by five children Lawrence Butts of Meadville, Vivian Warner of Erie, Carol Butts of Virginia, Richard E. Butts, Jr. of Franklin, Patricia Simmons of Shelbyville, TN, 13 grandchildren Bradlee, Nichole, Kimberly, Richard III, Tyrell, Monique, Paulette, Jessica, Sarena, Yvonne, Kiesha, Stacey, Lanitra, numerous great grandchildren, twin sisters Faye and Kaye Gorman, both of Meadville, two brothers Ronald Gorman of Las Vegas, NV, Carl Gorman of Spanaway, WA, a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Shirley was preceded in death by a sister Doris Harris, two brothers Walter Scott Gorman and Charles L. Gorman.

Family and friends are invited to call on Monday from 6-8 PM at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc., 404 Chestnut St., Meadville, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 24, 2016, with Patricia Simmons officiating.

Shirley will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
