Shirley Anne Byers, 86, of Meadville, passed away Saturday, February 8, 2025, at home with her family at her side.

Shirley was born in Johnstown, on February 6, 1939, the only daughter of the late Stanford and Elizabeth "Betty" (McKnight) Miller.

On July 2, 1992, Shirley married David Charles Byers; he preceded her in death on February 2, 2010. She previously had been married to Robert Chimiak, Sr.

She was an active member of St. Brigid Roman Catholic Church where she sang in the choir, served as an Eucharistic Minister, volunteered at the annual Lenten fish dinners, was active in the Cursillo Movement and was a member of the Associate of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Shirley graduated from Johnstown High School in 1958 and immediately became employed by the Credit Bureau. Following her marriage to Robert, she became a stay at home mom raising her family until 1979 when she became employed by the City of Meadville. For the next nine years she worked at the Meadville Area Recreational Complex and later took a position at City Hall working in the Water Billing Department. In 1997 Shirley suffered a mini stoke forcing her to retire. She was active with the Hunters Ridge Ladies Group and cherished the memories she made as an active member of The Red Hat Society. 

 Shirley is survived by her children Cecilia Byrd (Charles) of Meadville, Bob Chimiak, Jr. of Hadley, Dan Chimiak of Grove City, Terri Chimiak of Meadville, a daughter in law Diane Chimiak of Meadville; grandchildren Matthew Werner, Becky Michael, Andreanna Burnett, Aaron Chimiak, David-Michael Ramey, Shelby Rodgers (Ethan), Zane Chimiak (Victoria), Jake Chimiak, Myah Chimiak, Promiis Stout; great grandchildren Claudia Kynerd (Cole),Clayton Werner, Elise Michael, Elton Michael, Axel Chimiak, Griffin Chimiak; and a great great grandchild Camryn Kynerd.

In addition to her parents and husband, David, Shirley was preceded in death by a son Richard Chimiak.

Family and friends are invited to call from 2-5 PM on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST. MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 4:30 PM.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11 AM on Monday, February 17, 2025, at St. Brigid Church, 383 Arch Street, Meadville, with Fr. Kyle Seyler, Parochial Vicar, officiating.

Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband and mother in St. Brigid Cemetery.
