Shirley E. Whiting, 80, of 4971 Independence Drive, Bradenton, FL, formerly of 169 Reynolds Ave., Meadville, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017, at Northside Hospital, St. Petersburg, FL.
Shirley was born in Aurora, IL on July 29, 1936, a daughter of the late William and Florence Erickson.
On December 15, 1956 Shirley married Dean G. Whiting; he preceded her in death on January 13, 2008.
While living in Meadville, she was a member of Stone United Methodist Church.
Over the years Shirley had been employed in the office of both V. R. Yoder Plumbing and National Fuel Gas. Her hobbies included sitting in the sun reading, playing cards with family and friends and she was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. She enjoyed spending time with her daughters, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Shirley will be missed.
Shirley is survived by four daughters Karen Cioce of Waynesville, NC, Kathy Rader and her husband Michael of St. Petersburg, FL, Kim Shilling and her husband Dale of Meadville, Kelly Sweeney and her husband Michael of Birmingham, MI, eleven grandchildren Toree Amerman of St. Petersburg, FL, Lance Miller US Navy, of Gulfport, MS, Anthony Cioce of Waynesville, NC, Nicolas Cioce of Waynseville, NC, Amanda Gates of Jacksonville Beach, FL, Ashley Shilling of Dearborn, MI, Eric Shilling of Scottsdale, AZ, Brandon Sweeney of Bloomfield Hills, MI, BreAnne Sweeney Birmingham, MI, Brittany Lysaght of Northville, MI, Bradley Sweeney of Birmingham, MI, 12 great grandchildren, two very special Aunts Pat Niedermeyer of Marion, NC and Ermel Crate of Conneautville.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Dean, of 51 years, Shirley was preceded in death by three brothers Thomas, William and Charles Erickson.
Family and friends are invited to attend a casual Celebration of Life Service and luncheon for Dean and Shirley Whiting on Sunday, July 9, 2017, from 1-3 PM at VFW Post #2006, 1045 S. Morgan St., Meadville. Arrangements are under the direction of STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
Shirley will be laid to rest with her husband Dean in Saegertown Cemetery, Hayfield Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Assoc., PO Box 15120 Chicago, IL 60693.
