Steve "Jim" Nemeth, 76, of Cochranton, passed away Saturday, June 12, 2021, at Wesbury following an extended illness.
Steve was born in Meadville, on November 6, 1944, a son of the late Michael and Helen (Rhoades) Nemeth.
Having grown up in Cochranton, Jim attended the former Nelson School House and Cochranton schools before serving in the National Guard. Over the years he had been employed by George Junior in various capacities, by Erie Lackawanna Railroad, as a silo builder, as an auto mechanic, an auto body mechanic, and did roofing. A jack of all trades, there were very few things Jim was not able to do. He had an intuitive knack of how things worked, but if he wasn't sure, he would often take something apart and put it back together. Among his hobbies were playing checkers, working on cars, and any activity that brought him near water. His greatest joy was that of being a grandpa as well as mentor to his beloved Taylor and Takoda. Jim was generous with his time and talents to anyone in need. His gentle presence and soul will be sadly missed.
Jim is survived by a daughter Stephenie Gregory (companion Alan L. Wilkinson) of Cochranton; two grandchildren Taylor M. Gregory, Takoda E. Gregory; Alan's son Mark A. Wilkinson; two sisters Mary Ann Deeter of Cochranton, Helen "Gert" Kaltenbaugh (John) of Meadville; several nieces, nephews and cousins including his cousin Roger Runyan of Cochranton who was like a brother to him and Nancy Nickolay of Sandy Lake, a long time friend.
In addition to his parents, Jim was preceded in death by an infant sister Carol Ann; an infant grandchild; two brothers in law Albert "Gay" Deeter, John "Joe" Neads; and a son in law Sean E. Gregory.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4-7 on Wednesday, June 16 2021, at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where funeral services will follow at 7:00 PM with Rev. Sam Marchetta, Chaplain of Wesbury, officiating.
Jim will be laid to rest in Cochranton Cemetery.
