Susan Collette Borchilo, age 65, of Meadville PA, passed away Friday, July 6, 2018 at home with family by her side following a 9- year journey battling breast cancer. She was born April 5, 1953 in Charleroi, PA the, daughter of the late Nicholas G. and Mary D. (Dzsubak) Mayernik of Monongahela PA. She married Richard Borchilo on June 18, 1977, her husband of 42 years. He survives. Susan and Richard were former residents of Donora, Monongahela, and Saegertown PA.
Susan was a graduate of Donora Senior High School and Western PA School of Radiological Technology. Prior to becoming a stay-at-home mother and homemaker, she worked as an X-ray Technologist at Caplan, Levy and Balk Associates in Pittsburgh PA, and in Radiation Oncology and Diagnostic Radiology at St. Francis General Hospital in Pittsburgh PA. She also worked as an Independent Skin Consultant for Mary Kay Cosmetics.
She was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage PA. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Susan enjoyed road trips with her husband and spending time with her family. She also enjoyed her dogs, Colby Jack and Lylah Bleu. She had a kind and gentle spirit and will be remembered as a beautiful lady who loved the Lord. She spent her last days as she lived her life, praising God and thanking him for her blessings.
An exceptional cook, Susan participated in the Meadville Tribune Cook Book Contest as well as the Crawford County Fair and won several awards and ribbons, most notably, for her pineapple squares. She loved preparing countless meals for her family. Her happiest memories were of family dinners.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Angela Chiesa and her husband Chris, of Conneaut Lake PA, and Ashley Anderson and her husband Jason of North East PA; a granddaughter: Scarlett Jean Anderson of North East PA; two sisters: Mary Ann Rossi and her husband David of Elizabeth PA and Patricia Matta and her husband James of Fort Mill, SC; and a brother-in-law: James Borchilo of Donora, PA.
She is further survived by several nieces and nephews: Brian and Moriah Matta of Rock Hill, S.C., their children – Andersen and Colson; Brad and Julie Veross of Indian Land, S.C., their children – Luke and Grant; Jamie and Dana Rossi of Elizabeth PA, their children – Nicholas and Lilly; Steven and Candace Matta of Southwick, MA; and a cousin: Virginia (Jeanne) Staursky of Allison Park PA.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4-8 PM on Monday, July 9, 2018 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE.
Divine Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, July 10, 2018 at 11:00 am at St, Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, 2230 Highland Rd., Hermitage PA with Father Kevin Marks officiating and followed by a private burial at Saegertown Cemetery.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Yolando G. Barco Oncology Institute especially Calvin Han, her doctor, confidant and friend, his PA “good golly miss” Molly Samuels, and her “pit-bull” nurse, Jolene Halsaver. In addition, a special thank you to the staff of Hospice of Crawford County, Inc. for the empathetic care given to Susan during her final days. Their attentiveness was a blessing to Susan and the family. Thanks also to Fr. Jeff Lucas and the Catholic Community of Meadville for ministering to Susan’s spiritual needs. Lastly, a thank you to the neighbors in Forest Hills East Condominium Association who prepared many meals during Susan’s illness.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donation/contributions be made to Yolando G, Barco Oncology Institute, 16792 Conneaut Lake Rd., or to Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty Street, Meadville, PA 16335.
