Thelma Goodrich Patton, 95, formerly of Saegertown, and more recently of Olney, MD, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012 at the home of her daughter.
She was born on November 14, 1916 in Holliston, MA, a daughter of the late Harold R. and Alberta Merritt Goodrich.
She married John H. Patton on November 7, 1936; he preceded her in death on March 24, 1980.
Thelma was a graduate of Strong Vincent High School, Erie, in 1934. She was a charter member of Eriez Archers and a Girl Scout leader. She worked at The Baldwin Laboratories for 2 years and was department manager at J.C. Penny Store in Meadville for 25 years, retiring in 1977. Thelma was a member of Saegertown United Methodist Church and the Woodcock Township Ladies organization. Her interests included quilting, collecting antique buttons and traveling. She also volunteered at Wesbury Nursing Home for several years. She was an outdoor person and enjoyed walking in the woods. Thelma was a federal and state licensed bird-bander for 30 years and a member of the Meadville Bird and Tree Club. A highlight of her life was a hot air balloon ride in Frank Byhams balloon for her 80th birthday which was a gift from her daughter. She loved and was proud of all her family.
Survivors include a daughter Barbara Lee Ellis and her husband Frank N. Ellis; grandchildren Haifa Ann Ellis, John N. Ellis and his wife Cheryl, Maria Meyer and her husband Clint, one great granddaughter, several nieces, nephews and special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters Dorothy Humphries and Ruth Darsie.
Family and friends are invited to call on Sunday, April 15, 2012 from 7-8:30 and also on Monday, April 16, 2012 from 10-11 at Stephen P. Mizner Funeral Home, Inc., 330 Broad St., Saegertown, where Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM with Rev. Kenneth Custer, Pastor of Saegertown United Methodist Church, officiating
Private interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
