Thelma J. (Schlosser) Miller, 91, of 20455 S. Moisertown Road, Saegertown, passed away peacefully and into the loving arms of her personal Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Friday, March 16, 2018, at UPMC-Hamot Medical Center, Erie.
The oldest of six children, Thelma was born at home on Terrill Road in Cussewago Township on May 24, 1926, a daughter of the late Charles and Grace (Roberts) Schlosser.
On December 23, 1944 Thelma married Arthur N. Miller at the church parsonage in Moisertown, having been transported there by a horse-drawn sleigh due to a snowstorm. He preceded her in death on June 4, 1989.
Having attended the one room schoolhouse in Moisertown, Thelma graduated from Cambridge Springs High School. Although her work history began with plenty of childcare as well as working in the former Kleckner's Store in Moisertown, she started employment at the former Talon, Inc. in Meadville for a short time. For many years she spent each Wednesday working for the Meadville Livestock Auction Barn as a clerk. She also worked in the dining hall at Edinboro College in the early to mid 1970's and during the mid 1980's she worked in the cafeteria at the former Cussewago Elementary School for Penncrest School District. In 1989 she began working as the main cook and pie baker at the former Halfway Country Store and Tea Room on Harmonsburg Road. Throughout her lifetime she lovingly devoted much of her time to caring for her grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Caring for others in their time of need was a priority for her. She provided physical care for both her parents and her in laws in their aging years. Thelma spent many years devoted to and serving the Lord, for the first eighty years of her life at Carmel Baptist Church, Moisertown, prior to becoming a founding member of Cornerstone Baptist Church, Crossingville. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school for many years as well as gardening, canning, baking, doing word searches, watching Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, attending her great granddaughters' volleyball matches, and Starlight peppermints.
Thelma is survived by three children, Ron Miller (Margie) of Crossingville, Sam Miller (Josie) of Middletown, CT, Bev Heiniger of Saegertown, a sister Zola Gillette of Linesville, a sister in law Julie Schlosser of Saegertown, five grandchildren Betty White, Donna Kibbee (Mike), John Miller (girlfriend Clara Simmons), Amanda Collier (Eric) and Sarah Sweeney (Mike) six step grandchildren Becki Heiniger, Paul Heiniger (Christine), Pete Heiniger (Shara), Brian Peterman, Jill Morgan (Tom), Todd Peterman (Jen), four great grandchildren, Daniel Kibbee, Katelyn Kibbee, Michaela Sweeney, Maxx Collier, several step-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents and husband she was preceded in death by brother Blaine Schlosser, three sisters Elsie Seneta, infant sisters Retha Schlosser, Letha Schlosser, two brothers in law Orest Seneta, Eugene Gillette, daughter in law Mollie Miller, son in law Paul Heiniger, father in law and mother in law John D. and Eva P. Miller and sister in law Joycelyn A. Lewis.
Family and friends are invited to call on from Wednesday from 3-6 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT STREET, MEADVILLE, and on Thursday from 10 - until the time of the service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, with Dr. Ronald Sheldon, Pastor of Cornerstone Baptist Church officiating.
Thelma will be laid to rest in Saegertown Cemetery.
