Theresa A. Sekel, 80, of 21234 Serenity Drive, Meadville, passed away Friday, June 30, 2017, at Wesbury United Methodist Community. She was formerly of 285 Linden St., Meadville, where she had resided for 75 years.
Theresa was born in Meadville, on February 9, 1937, the youngest of 13 children born to the late Peter and Dorthea (Accardi) Cappellino.
On June 21, 1958 Theresa married David N. Sekel; he survives.
She was an active member of St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church and the Altar Rosary Society where she volunteered in many capacities.
Theresa attended the former St. Brigid Catholic School and was a 1955 graduate of Meadville High School. She treasured the friendships she had made with her classmates and enjoyed the monthly luncheons they shared. Over the years Theresa had been employed by the former Pizza Parlor, the former Kroger and County Market Grocery Stores, primarily in the deli and bakery. She was a member of the Italian Civic Club Auxiliary. Church and family were the center of Theresa's life. Cooking and baking, whether for her church or family, gave her great joy. Her nurturing spirit was second nature to her as she loved tending to the needs of others. She loved and cared for her family with all her heart. She will be sadly missed.
In addition to her husband, David, of 59 years, Theresa is survived by six children Ann Nelson and her husband Doug of Meadville, David Sekel and his wife Natalie of Allen, TX, Mark Sekel and his partner Tim Moriarty of Indianapolis, IN, Patricia Lobdell and her husband Jody of Warren, Christine Wilke and her husband Dennis of Pittsburgh, Amy Martin and her husband Shawn of Broadview Heights, OH, thirteen grandchildren Douglas Nelson and his wife Courtney, Angela Stansfield and her husband Michael, Daniel Nelson and his wife Jenna, Melissa Neece and her husband Jonathan, Lauren Barr and her husband Eric, Rachael Lobdell, Kathryn Lobdell, Julia Lobdell, Benjamin Wilke, Nicholas Wilke, Anna Wilke, Mackenzie Martin, Haley Martin, two great grandchildren Mary Neece, Andrew Neece, a sister Uda Varricchio of Wickliffe, OH, a brother Sam Cappellino of Warren, OH, four sisters in law Rose Cappellino of Meadville, Catherine "Kate" Newell of Cambridge Springs, Bootsie Netzler and her husband Ron of Edinboro, Monica Mitchell of Cambridge Springs, many nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, Theresa was preceded in death by ten siblings Rose Bergamasco, Benevenuda Cappellino, Benevenuda Cappellino, Anna Cappellino, James Cappellino, Richard "Dick" Cappellino, Peter Cappellino, Andrew Cappellino, Samuel Cappellino, Nick Cappellino and a nephew Art Bergamasco.
Family and friends are invited to call on Wednesday from 1-4 and 6-9 at STEPHEN P. MINZER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, where a Scripture Service will be held at 8:30 PM.
Prior to Mass on Thursday, the Rosary will be recited at 8:45 AM at the Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., Meadville, at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 6, 2017, with Fr. Philip Oriole officiating.
Theresa will be laid to rest in St. Brigid Cemetery, West Mead Twp.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary of Grace Roman Catholic Church, 1085 Water St., or Hospice of Crawford County, 766 Liberty St., or Wesbury UMC Benevolent Fund, 31 N. Park Ave., all in Meadville, PA 16335.
