Thomas "Tom" J. Berkstresser, 60, of Meadville, passed away suddenly on Monday, December 28, 2020, at home
Tom was born in Charlotte, NC on April 7, 1960, a son of Eileen (Pearson) and the late William Berkstresser.
On October 15, 1988 Tom married Rebecca Ann Skarlinski; she survives.
He was affiliated with French Creek Community Church.
In 1990 Tom earned his Bachelor's Degree from Edinboro University in both Education and Special Education. With 30 years of service with IU #5, Tom was planning to retire in June, but was very much looking forward to the opportunity to teach side by side with his daughter, who had just accepted a position as an Emotional Support Teacher for the IU. He was passionate about helping his students and knew she would be also. Tom was very proud that his wife and children were also graduates of Edinboro University. He cherished his family through and through and they were the center of his life. He never missed a school event or sporting event in which they participated, becoming an avid Meadville sports fan. He also served as President of Meadville Football Boosters. To Tom, family, and spending time with family, was everything. He enjoyed being at home, especially in the summer months working in his yard and he loved his pets. Tom's demeanor was quiet and he chose his words wisely. He will be sadly missed.
In addition to his wife, Rebecca, of 32 years, Tom is survived by two children Max C. Berkstresser and his wife Emma of Erie, Lydia G. Berkstresser and her fiance' Trenton Whitesell of Fairview; his mother Eileen Berkstresser of Meadville; two brothers Timothy Berkstresser of Houston, TX, and Terrence Berkstresser of Meadville.
To honor Tom's wishes, services are private.
Memorial contributions may be made in Tom's name to Humane Society of Crawford County, 11012 Kennedy Hill Road, Meadville, PA 16335.
