Varghese "Matt" Nalpathanchil

Varghese "Matt" Nalpathanchil, 81, of Meadville, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2018 at Wesbury United Methodist Retirement Community.

Matt was born in Alleppey, India on May 3, 1937, a son of the late Thomas and Thresiamma Nalpathanchil.

On December 26, 1971 Matt married Rosy Antony; she survives.

He was a long time member of St. Agatha Roman Catholic Church, Meadville.

A native of Edathua, Kerala State in India, Matt immigrated to the United States in 1977 and settled in Meadville, PA. A decade later, he proudly became a US citizen along with his wife, Rosy. Both were strong supporters of education; they made sure their children did not miss school, even on the day Matt and Rosy took their naturalization oath. Years later they were just as proud to watch both daughters graduate from college.

Matt was a hard worker and at one time became a business owner when he opened a restaurant. People knew him for his infectious smile and sharp wit. He enjoyed watching sports especially the NBA. He was also a die hard Dallas Cowboys fan despite living in northwest PA where cheering for the Steelers or Browns was more common. His pastimes included fishing and playing pool, a game he loved so much that he turned his dining room into a "pool room".

Matt was also a fighter, surviving a heart attack and stroke 17 years ago.

He leaves behind his wife Rosy of 47 years, daughters Jessie Dimovski (Zoran) of Harrisburg, Lucy Nalpathanchil (Jason Neely) of Suffield, CT, two grandchildren Cormac and Willow, sisters Thresiamma, Rosamma, Annamma, all of India, brother Thomas, several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Matt was preceded in death by a brother Xavier and sister Mariamma .

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, August 9, 2018 at STEPHEN P. MIZNER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION SERVICES, INC., 404 CHESTNUT ST., MEADVILLE, with Fr Andrew Boyd, Parochial Vicar, officiating.

Matt will be laid to rest in St. Agatha Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in his name to American Heart/Stroke Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231.
