Velma Ernestine Holden

V. Ernestine Holden, 98, of Mount Joy, formerly of Meadville and Coons Corners in Saegertown, passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018, at Juniper Village at Mount Joy.
Ernestine was born in Beaver Co., on November 13, 1919, a daughter of the late Ernest C. and Vera Lucille (Gormley) Calhoon.

On September 7, 1944 Ernestine married Frank L. Holden; he preceded her in death on August 23, 2005. During their 60 years of marriage they enjoyed traveling the globe together.

While living in the Saegertown area, she was an active member of Hamlin Chapel as well as a longtime member of the church Women's Society.

In her early years Ernestine had been employed by Associated Charities, Crawford County TB Association which was located in the Market House, and National Bearing Metals, until retiring to raise their son. She had also worked for her parents at Calhoon's Grocery in Coons Corners for many years. Ernestine was a 1937 graduate of Meadville High School.

Ernestine is survived by her son William E. Holden and his wife Beth of Lancaster, two grandsons Michael Holden and his wife Lyn of Bangkok, Thailand, Mark Holden and his wife Stephanie of New Holland, four great grandchildren, and several cousins of Beaver County.

In addition to her parents, Ernest and Lucille Calhoon who lived in Coons Corners, Ernestine was preceded in death by her husband, Frank.

A Memorial Service will be held at Hamlin Chapel at later date which will be announced.

Ernestine will be laid to rest in Greendale Cemetery.
