Victor L. Sheriff, 98, of 20881 State Hwy. 198, Saegertown, formerly of St. Petersburg, FL, passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Crawford County Care Center, Saegertown.

Victor was born in Meadville, on January 17, 1917, a son of the late Emil and Elizabeth (Hites) Sheriff.

On September 25, 1940 Victor married Anna Walters; she preceded him in death in September, 1996.

While living in St. Petersburg, FL, he was a member of St. James United Methodist Church.

Victor retired from the US Postal Service in St. Petersburg, FL on May 31, 1982. He previously had worked as a milkman for the former Sealtest Dairy both in Meadville and St. Petersburg, FL. Additionally, he owned Sheriff Apartments in St. Petersburg. A 1935 graduate of Meadville High School, he also served his country during WW II, in the US Navy from April 27, 1942 until his honorable discharge October 10, 1945. During this time he was a member of PT Boat 161 crew serving in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the American Theater Asiatic-Pacific Area Recognition with 2 Battle Stars, the European-Africian Middle East Area Good Conduct Medal and the Philippine Liberated Ribbon with 1 Star. A member of the Scottish Rite, the Grand Lodge of the Free & Accepted Masons #632 Columbus, OH, he was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Victor is survived by many nieces and nephews including Ray White and his wife Barbara of Meadville, Rona White-Mitrovich of Willowick, OH, Richard White of Cochranton, Ruth Ann Godsave and her husband Leon of Conneaut Lake, Mary Petruso Gartland and her husband Mike of Charleston, WV, several grand nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and his wife Anna of 56 years, Victor was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters Edith Sheriff, Willard "Bill" Sheriff, Anna Louise White, Harold Sheriff, Harriet Welch, Paul Sheriff, Clarence Sheriff, James Sheriff and Esther Peterson.

At Victor's request there will be no visitation.

A Graveside Service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 2, 2015, at Sunset Memorial Cemetery, 16959 Broad St., Galloway, OH, with a service conducted by West Gate Masonic Lodge #623 and Full Military Honors.

The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff of Southern Care Hospice and all the staff of the Crawford County Care Center, especially those working on the Mauve Unit, for their kindness and compassion while caring for Victor.
